Is the waistband stretchy?

Yes. The waistband is fully elasticated and finished with a drawstring tie, so it has give at the waist while still letting you adjust the fit.

Do these shorts fit closely on the leg?

No. The leg is cut loose with a softly flared opening, so they skim over the thigh rather than sitting tight.

Are the lighter colours likely to need nude underwear?

Apricot is the palest shade in the range, so nude underwear is the best choice underneath. The textured cotton helps with coverage more than a thin flat weave.
